Dr. Suryachandra Rao

Dr. Suryachandra Rao is a senior-scientist at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, and is leading “Monsoon Mission” program of India as Associate Mission Director. “Monsoon Mission” is an ambitious mission mode program to improve the skill of Indian Summer Monsoon weather and climate. As a result of this program India’s dynamical model are now one of the better models among models from other leading centres. His works on Indian Ocean Dipole, Indian Ocean Warming and Indian Monsoon variability and prediction were highly cited by peers. Dr. Rao has published around 100 research papers (with high citations ~7000) in leading international journals and received several awards nationally and internationally. At present he is also serving as a member of Clivar/GEWEX Monsoons Panel. His leadership efforts, as project director of High Performance Computer, resulted in establishing India’s first multi-petaflops High Performance Computer.
